Working with Adults, Young People & Children

What I specialise in

Psychotherapy & Counselling

I offer a safe, calm, confidential and non-judgemental space for therapy to take place so you can explore what's really bothering you. I work in a solution focussed way, offering both short term and long term therapy.

The Pluralistic Approach

I work in a pluralistic way meaning that I draw on a range of therapy methods, techniques and tools to suit each individual client and their needs, tailoring each session to them, including person-centred, CBT, psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis helps to relax our busy minds, to gain a clear perspective and make the right decisions for us. It can stop self limiting beliefs, boost confidence and self-esteem, and give you the tools to cope with any overwhelming life challenges so you can achieve whatever you want to.

How Can Psychotherapy, Counselling and Hypnotherapy Help?

Psychotherapy and counselling aims to help people resolve issues. If you currently have undesirable ways of thinking, feeling or behaving, therapy aims to assist people in finding meaningful alternatives resulting in long lasting changes. Therapy also tends to help clients become more self-aware and accepting both of themselves and others, promoting personal development and unlocking inner potential. Talking, reflecting and support is what usually happens in psychotherapy and counselling sessions in a safe, warm, non-judgemental environment so clients can really explore what is bothering them and their true feelings. Sessions can be short-term or long-term depending on the presenting issue and what arises along the way.

Hypnosis is a completely natural state of consciousness where deep relaxation is reached so that there is a heightened focus and concentration. Acceptable beneficial suggestions can then be accepted in the subconscious mind to facilitate positive change and well-being without resistance from the conscious critical faculty (the conscious side of the brain).

Once in a relaxed state I will use the power of your own imagination through using story telling, metaphors or symbolism to create positive change, allowing you to achieve whatever it is that you want to. The sessions will be goal oriented, allowing you to focus internally, creating new patterns of thinking and behaviours. I am always respectful of people’s wishes and those who do not wish to engage in hypnosis will not be required to do so.

My name is Amy and I specialise in Psychotherapy, Counselling & Hypnotherapy in a safe and supportive environment.

I offer Psychotherapy, Counselling and Hypnotherapy from my Private Practice in Witham. My therapy space is safe, calm, confidential and non-judgemental so you can really explore what is bothering you.

I work with adults, young people and children in a pluralistic way using a wide range of therapy methods, including; Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Hypnotherapy.

I am a natural warm empath, meaning my clients feel confident and comfortable opening up to me about what is bothering them. I build rapport quickly and work in a solution focussed way, adapting my working style to the needs of every client.

I am fully insured and have an enhanced DBS check. I am a member of The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and The National Hypnotherapy Society and adhere to their Code of Ethics. I have strong ethical principles and professional standards.

Prior to my therapy training I worked in corporate financial services so I understand the pressures of working in fast paced, high stress environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Every person is different so it varies with each client but my aim with everyone is to give a little bit more insight at every session so you feel better each time. The way I work is client led meaning if you feel you’ve reached where you wish to be, then it will be time to stop coming but if you think you are gaining something from therapy, then keep coming. I will always be honest with you and if I feel I’ve taken you as far as I can, we’ll stop. Or if I feel it is not working for you, we’ll stop. I always have the best interests of my client at heart and it is sometimes necessary to refer clients on to another practitioner. In the event of this being necessary, I will assist you in seeking an alternative therapist and support you through the transition process. It can vary with each client and each presenting issue and whilst it is wonderful to report that some clients experience profound change in just 1 or 2 sessions, I usually work with clients for at least 10 sessions depending upon their goals and progress. I will give you an indication of the likely number of sessions at the initial assessment, although a better understanding of the treatment plan is usually determined by session 3. I have regular reviews with clients every 3 to 4 sessions to determine progress and the way forward.

No you do not have to have an issue to come to therapy. Some people just want to explore their past and upbringing or significant events and how this may have shaped them and impacted them.

Some people just have a ‘niggle’ something is off or isn’t quite right and would like to explore that with the help of a therapist.

It can vary for each individual and each presenting issue. Some clients experience great change in just 1 or 2 sessions, however I usually work with clients between 3 and 4 sessions depending upon their goals and progress and to really cement in the changes and work that has been done.

Weight management usually takes between 5 and 6 sessions.

We will discuss the likely number of sessions for you at the initial assessment. I will review progress with you at every session to determine the way forward.

Smoking cessation usually takes only 1 (3 hour) session.

Almost anyone can be hypnotised. Some people are more susceptible and ready to be hypnotised than others but this usually depends upon how willing the person is to engage in the process and make the changes they are seeking hypnotherapy for.

People cannot be hypnotised against their will and the client is in control at all times.

Everyone can benefit from hypnotherapy as it can be used to access and utilise a person’s inner potential and inner resources to effect beneficial change. Given that most of us are not performing to our actual real potential then everyone can benefit from hypnotherapy.

You are in complete control of yourself at all times. You will not say or do anything that you don’t want to and there is no need to give any information that you feel is unnecessary to the process.
